Is an all-new KISS on the horizon?
From: New York Times/Launch.com
The New York Times, in an article titled "This Band Was Your Band"
concluded the article with the following:
Doc McGhee, who represents the rockers KISS, has another twist on the idea
altogether: he has been toying with the idea of recruiting an entire band to
replace the original KISS and don the band's famous makeup.
"KISS is more like Doritos or Pepsi, as far as a brand name is concerned," he
said. "They're more characters than the individual person. I think they have a
legitimate chance to carry the franchise."
KISS singer-bassist GENE SIMMONS doesn't necessarily disagree with that idea.
He told Launch.com that the concept of original members isn't widely held by
fans, and it isn't really accurate anyway. "There's no question that there's a
core of fans - five or ten percent, my sense is - who believe in original
members," he said. "And yet, when you look at original members, THE BEATLES are
not original members - Ringo is not an original member; the STONES - barely.
You know, they've had so many members come and go, but it's the STONES; and
AC/DC's aren't original members; and VAN HALEN; and JOURNEY...you go down the
list of every - almost every band you can think of."
Girls of KISS Julie Robbins Dies
From: KISSAsylum.com By: Mike Brandvold
Sad news to tell regarding adult film star Julie Robbins, who was tragically
killed Thursday September 22, 2005, as her car ran off the road and smashed
into a power pole earlier in the day. The accident trapped her in her burning
2005 Ford sport utility vehicle. Brandy Koonts, (A.K.A. Julie Robbins) who was
airlifted to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center after the wreck, was
pronounced dead at 10:55 p.m. Thursday.
Julie was the star of countless films, most recently seen in Blonde Factory
(SIN CITY), as well as Bounced Check Bitches, Public Enemy #1, and the Victoria
Givens world record video. Julie had been nominated as Feature Performer Newcomer
Of The Year by Exotic Dancer Magazine this year, and was thrilled for the
recognition. Recently she had been the feature dancer at Tootsie's Cabaret in
Miami, Florida, where she had performed several times over the past year. She had
called me from there, telling me how much she loved the energy there, and that
she couldn't wait to come back to Las Vegas over the Thanksgiving holiday to do
some more shooting for her website, and work on some video with me. More than
that, she was truly a genuine down to earth person, who loved to express herself
in the industry, and as a friend.
Julie, a Girl of KISS for August 2003, had celebrated her 26th birthday on
September 17. Julie had made appearances at a couple KISS Expos over the last
few years. Julie's official website,
XXXJulieRobbins, will be remaining
online as a tribute to her.
Why Not A Rock Star?
From: The Oregonian By: Sharon Spence
The Oregonian's Opinion page printed this letter to the editor about Tommy's
recent appointment to the Pacific University Board of Trustees:
Why Not A Rock Star?
As a Pacific alumna (2003) and mother of a devoted KISS Army Soldier
(KISS fan), I think Tommy Thayer's appointment to the university's board of
trustees is a wonderful thing. In addition to the reasons for the appointment
that the other board members cited, there is also the unique perspective that
Thayer's career and life experience will bring to Pacific's vision. Some may
think that this sends the message that young people don't need higher
education, but it also sends the message that you can achieve your dreams and
goals with hard work. Why not a rock star?

SIMMONS: 'I'M DELUDED'
From: ContactMusic.com
KISS rocker GENE SIMMONS loves his appearance and the sound of his voice so
much - he admits he must be delusional.
The lothario can't wait for his new reality show GENE SIMMONS' ROCK SCHOOL to
air in the UK on Friday (30SEP05) just so he can check himself out on the small
screen.
He says, "I think the show's quite good, but then I'm delusional about almost
everything I do.
"I think I'm better looking than I am. I actually am one of those human beings
who likes the sound of my own voice, so when I see myself on the screen I
immediately think, 'God he's stunning.'"
SIMMONS MAKING SECOND REALITY SERIES 'FOR THE MONEY'
From: ContactMusic.com
KISS rocker GENE SIMMONS has committed to a second series of his reality show
GENE SIMMONS' ROCK SCHOOL, because he'll "do anything for money".
The flamboyant frontman attempts to turn pupils at English private school
Christ's Hospital into little rock gods in the show - currently airing on
British TV.
He is soon to return to the school in Horsham, south east England soon to
shoot a second series.
Simmons explains, "I like money and, naturally, would do anything for money,
within the confines of the law., so I am returning to Christ's Hospital to
start series 2.
"I would prefer it if it were a Catholic girls' school, of course."
Markosia Music Unleashes Jazan Wild's Carnival Of Souls
From: Markosia Music
Hits Stores Halloween 2005
Markosia Music will be releasing Jazan Wild's Carnival Of Souls debut album
in October 2005 simultaneously with the first issue of a comic book bi-monthly
series also entitled Jazan Wild's Carnival of Souls.
Wild has been working on his thirteen-track CD, a soundtrack to the comic
books series, for almost two years along side Grammy Award Winning Producer,
Bob Kulick.
Stefan Petrucha (X-Files) supplies the script for the comic book series –
with art from Kevin Conrad (Spawn, Kiss' Psycho Circus, Hulk) and colors from
Dan Kemp (Spawn, Kiss' Psycho Circus, Spiderman). A trade paper back is being
planned for a June 2006 – which will contain a CD with rare bonus tracks
written, performed and produced by Wild.
The series has already gained much interest. A special preview edition of the
book was printed for the San Diego Comic Con and Wizard World Chicago and
anyone purchasing this special preview book given a free 3 track promo CD at
either show. If you fancy hearing one of Wild’s tracks from the album then
click on the links below. Prepared to be rocked!!!
The comic series is currently available to order in the latest Previews catalog

of this book that it has overprinted the first issue to meet further demand.
Carnival Of Souls has been best described as Twin Peaks and Lost meets Stray
Bullets and according to its creator, Jazan Wild, “each individual character
has a story to tell about why they have succumbed to the Carnival of Souls”.
“This Caravan of the damned travels between this world and the next... between
reality and dreams ... between heaven and hell!”. “Each issue we take the reader
on a journey to discover the life and death of a new member of the carnival!”.
In addition Jazan Wild will be appearing at Los Angeles’ very own Golden
Apple comic book shop on Melrose Ave. this 28th October – for a Halloween
promotion not to be missed!!! Get copies of the first issue signed by Jazan
and pick up a copy of Jazan’s CD!!!
"Kevin's artistic prowess is evident here as he flexes his penciling muscles
for the first time in this full throttle comic. His storytelling is spot on,
his visuals are eye-searing and characters are alive. One look and you'll
want to keep looking for more of Carnival of Souls
--Tony Daniel, (Teen Titans, The Tenth)
"Kevin Conrad has long been one of the greatest inkers in the game, and I
think we all knew he was really much more than that. He's got such a solid
sense of storytelling structure, he's really one of the best pencilers in the
game as well, and it's wonderful to see his full talents shine
through."
--Jim McLauchlin, editor-in-chief, Top Cow Productions.
"Kevin's art brings to life every creepy thought you had as a child of clowns
to a nail biting reality, and then some. From Steven King's IT too McDonald's
Ronald, Carnival of Souls blows up an enormous circus sized balloon animal of
horror to unimaginable frightening delight!!!"
--Bob LeFevre.Penciler - Transformers, Decoy.
Penciler/Creator,Writer - Aletheia

Angelo Coppola, Small Drummer Packs A Big Sound
From: KISSAsylum By: Keith Leroux
Got this great note from Angelo & his dad!!
Hi Keith!
This is Joe Coppola (Angelo's dad). We wanted to tell you what a great time
the Coppola family had at the Expo! It was truly fantastic what you did to help
the victims of the hurricane and the KISS fans of the world are really some
of the most friendly and generous people we've ever met. I would like to
send you a DVD of Angelo's performance at the Expo if you could send me an
address. Also you HAVE to check out the updates we did to his website. There
is a picture of Angelo & Eric and a little article about the event at the top
of his Homepage and we created a whole seperate page just for the Expo! There
are some really cool pics on this page and we even put a video on there from
his performance!
I also wanted you to be the first one to read an article that I wrote about
Angelo's experience at the Expo. It might be a little too long to put on
your site but I wanted you to see if it's something you'd be interested in
running. I am also attatching a couple of pics to go with the article in
case you're interested. So far I have not sent this article to anyone but
you. The article is as follows:
Sometimes Dreams Come True
Angelo Coppola of Macomb, MI was 3 years old when he went to his first
KISS concert. From that day forward he adopted a special love for the band &
their music. Around that time, he also began banging on a drum set that his
dad (a musician) had bought. He played a variety of music but he really
enjoyed playing along to KISS songs. When Angelo was eight, one of his
favorite TV shows was America's Most Talented Kids. He wondered "
Wouldn't it be great if I could perform on that show?" (Dream #1)
His parents, having supreme confidence in their son decided to make a
video tape and send it in to the show. But a big question would be "
what song would show off the drums, have tons of energy and really get the
crowd (and judges) moving?". Easy, KISS' "Rock and Roll All
Nite." So they sent the tape in and Angelo was soon invited to compete
on the show. He and his family flew out to Los Angeles and taped the show
in December 2004. Angelo rocked the house with his rendition and became one
of the youngest winners ever! The show aired all over the country in March
and again in August 2005. (Dream #1 fulfilled)

Angelo often asked his parents "Do you think I'll ever meet one of the
guys from KISS?" (Dream #2) His parents told him although anything is
possible it would be unlikely given the kind of busy schedules rock stars
have (especially a mega-band like KISS). Then one day while browsing
KISSASYLUM.com Angelo discovered an ad for the Chicago KISS Expo where Eric
Singer would appear and meet with fans. Angelo diligently persuaded his parents
to travel to Chicago and attend the Expo. By this time, Angelo had been
performing in public regularly so Angelo's dad contacted the Chicago Expo's
organizer/promoter, Jim Frangella. Jim had seen Angelo's performance on
America's Most Talented Kid's show and welcomed the idea of Angelo kicking
off the evening's entertainment. In preparing for this performance,
Angelo adopted a practice regiment that any professional would be proud of.
Never at a loss for questions, Angelo wondered, "Would Eric Singer be
able to watch me perform?" (Dream #3) His parents again warned him
that Eric is one of the hardest working drummers in the world. He would be
appearing at the Chicago KISS Expo in between tour dates with Alice Cooper
and KISS. Still, Angelo prepared harder than ever even with the slightest
chance of his idol seeing him play.
September 3, 2005 the day of the Expo, Angelo showed up early to check
out all of the choice memorabilia. Everyone was so friendly and generous.
Angelo noted how KISS fans were the nicest people in the world! Then it was
time to meet Eric Singer. (Dream #2 fulfilled) Angelo brought a black Pearl
bass drum head for Eric to sign (it is now his prize possession) Eric was so
patient and down to earth. He made everyone feel like they already knew
him. Eric told Angelo he was looking forward to hearing him play that evening.
No Way! Things were really panning out for Angelo.
Angelo's performance was scheduled for 6:00pm and Eric showed up before hand
to talk before the show. Eric even gave Angelo some solid advice on how to warm
up before a big show. (A private lesson with Eric Singer! Unbelievable!) Angelo
performed his set with maturity well beyond his years. He performed 12 songs
for about 45 minutes. The crowd was really into it and Angelo fed off their
energy. He impressed everyone with his skill and power. Eric approached Angelo
again after the show and complimented him on his performance. The two of them
actually had a lot in common. Eric called Angelo a munchkin, he told Angelo
that is what Gene Simmons called him because of his small stature. He also
commented at how hard Angelo hit the skins, a trait that Eric is also known
for. Angelo was so thrilled that his hero took the time to watch his entire
performance. (Dream #3 fulfilled) Afterwards, it was Angelo's turn to sign
autographs and take pictures with fans as he was approached and complimented
by everyone.
The moral of the story is sometimes dreams do come true. Reach for the stars
because you never know what you are capable of with a little luck and a lot
of hard work. Angelo's next question (sorry Eric), "Dad do you think I
will ever get to play with KISS?" I'm not betting against him!
There is a whole page dedicated to the Chicago KISS Expo with many more
pictures and a video from Angelo's performance on
www.angelo-coppola.com.
KISS Alive! & Well - 30 Years of Glory
From: myspace.com/ballseydog By: Will Briere
AKA The album that saved our Asses
The flash pots, flames and grease paint are hitting the stage... The year was 1975, September 10 to be exact. Much was happening around this time, Vietnam was coming to a bloody halt: Nixon exclaimed, "I'm not a crook". While all this was going on the counter-culture was in an uproar trying desperately to enforce social and political justice. Lets not forget those lovable flower children that wanted everyone to join them for some peace and love and a good toak at a Dead show.
Meanwhile something totally different was going on in New York City: Four guys were about to change the way people thought about music forever! KISS Alive was the rock n' roll shoot heard round the world. I guess you could call it a wake up call to those musicians who were on stage jamming their brains out while really in need of a shower and a lesson in stage presence. KISS may not be the greatest thing to happen to music but in this humble authors opinion they are the greatest American rock act to grace a concert stage. KISS is the unapologetic in your face tribute to American rock music of the 1950's. KISS is the only band that had the balls to say lets put out a live double slab LP with all our greatest hits! There was one huge problem: they had none! Radio hated them with a passion, gee I guess KISS knew something nobody else did: and that was, who needs radio? We're going to do it the old fashion way and play our music live for the masses and let the people decide. The result was an overwhelming vote of OH YEAH!!! KISS was brought to their explosive success by the fans who just forced radio to play KISS tunes. Fans know this day well, the day a kid from Terre Haute Indiana named Bill Starkey called up WVTS and said, you better play KISS or I will have thousands of people surrounding your building! The KISS ARMY was started in 1975 just as ALIVE was about to explode on American culture- Bill and his Army of friends were also responsible for the first mass produced KISS shirts. So, I guess this proves who the real marketing geniuses are... The fans!
The Rock n' Roll hall of fame refuses to this day to admit KISS, which is OK with me because KISS isn't about critics who think they know what's best for you- KISS is without question the middle finger pointed straight at them! What the hell do they know these are the same people who spit at Led Zeppelin when they came on the scene, oh need I not forget to mention another Birmingham quartet named Black Sabbath who stands in good company with KISS still waiting in line for acceptance! BOO-HOOO.
KISS with the release of Alive said" we are here for those of you who could care less about what anyone thinks of you! Look at us we look like four knuckleheads who were kicked out of mime class because we wanted to be different and we could never learn to keep our mouth shut"!
On the issue of musicianship, KISS took it back to basics in terms of songs in an era that was starting to get swallowed in its own mushroom cloud of confusion, KISS just wanted to remind you of what Chuck Berry, Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis wanted you to do... Have a good time and forget about your problems for a while KISS just did it a lot louder a little raunchier and with magnified American spirit.
KISS, are the Beatles of the 1970's. Are their songs as well written as the "Fab Four"? HELL NO! Gene Simmons himself would slap me upside the head if I said Yes! One thing that will always keep KISS close to the Beatles is the fact that they are different from any other rock act to come before or after them. KISS is the American Beatles, while Aerosmith and Grand Funk Railroad boast the slogan. KISS have sold well over 100 Million records have broken attendance records held by the Beatles and lets not forget the stuff with a capitol $. " Well, we try to get ourselves involved in every aspect of American culture. And this is just another way to do that!" Paul Stanley speaking about the new KISS slot machine, September 2005. Any music act today and it doesn't matter if you play small clubs or huge arenas, should all thank them because without them records would not sell as well if Alive! Was never released. There are those who want to give the credit to Frampton Comes Alive but the truth is that pressing was a direct result of KISS ALIVE! KISS were the first music act to be certified by the RIAA in 1976. If you are one of those fans who is a little squeamish using the Beatles and KISS in the same sentence I'll be sensitive to that and call them the kings of cock rock! Either way, it's still adds up to one thing, the greatest American band that the world has ever scene.
Any band who can claim what KISS boast in terms of album sales, fan devotion merchandising and concert ticket sales and not be a Rock N Roll Hall of Fame should wear it like a badge of honor. Like Black Sabbath KISS have never truly been endorsed by the mainstream music press. The most prominent that comes to mind would be Rolling Stone. You know you've made an impact on culture when preachers and every politically correct organization want to burn your records! At least you know you're in good company. Why should you be so offended when Mr. Simmons claims to have romanced over 4,600 ladies? Isn't that what a "Rock Star" should do? I mean KISS isn't "Leave It To Beaver". I wonder if Gene bedded June? The real reason why religious groups hate KISS is simply because they figured out a way to make more money. And when you buy KISS there is no deception what so ever, only a good time to be had for all-
KISS released 14 discs between 1974 & 1979 this included the 4 solo LP's that were all on the street on the same day I don't believe that pace has ever been duplicated since. Dynasty marked the end of an era that celebrated too much of everything so again like the Beatles in leaving a mark with their departure in 1970 signaling the end of the 1960's KISS did the same in 1980 with Peter Criss leaving the band in May of that year. Has KISS continued on? Yes but after that KISS was a completely different band. There is only one KISS that deserves to be called the "Hottest Band in the world" and you can put cat makeup and Space man make up on any one but you can't replace Gene, Paul, Peter & Ace. To the four of you I say thanks for introducing me to the wonderful world of music.

ACE Frehley Attends Hard Rock Grandng Party!
From: EddieTrunk.com
Saturday night the all new Hard Rockd in Times Square with a HUGE
private event/party. An amazing scene with complete with a red carpet! The
new HRC is amazing, they did an awesome job and in addition to a great
restaurant/bar, it is now a legit concert venue (ith's the site of the old
WWE and World). Velvet Revolver played live and it was my first time seeing
them. Real impressive and great to see Duff and Slash rocking together again.
If you see VR it really blows you away that Axl thinks G&R is better without
these two guys (if there even is a G&R these days). Besides being a great
player, Slash is just an amazing rock presence on stage. The highlights
were the G&R and STP stuff they played, as well as songs from the VR debut.
I don't love the bands debut album, but they were killer live and I hope they
stick around for a while and really develop even more. Some of the other people
hanging out that I spoke with included Les Paul, Steven Van Zant, Jim Florentine,
Roger Glover, many members of the NY Mets (including of course Mike Piazza!) and
Atlanta Braves and ACE FREHLEY. I've spoke to Ace often but have not seen him in
a while. He looks great and has been totally clean and sober now for a couple
years. I am so proud of him. Even in an environment where it was a massive
party with food and drink everywhere, Ace was totally straight. Who knows,
maybe some new music or shows are down the line, but I'm most happy that he is
healthy! Congrats to Johnny HardRock and the entire HRC staff. GREAT party and
best of luck in the new spot. Can't wait to do an event there.

KISS: 'Rock The Nation Live!'
From: EddieTrunk.com By: Joe Bilbo G
KISS Kollector Online has isued the following update on KISS' upcoming "Rock the
Nation Live!" DVD:
"There's been a lot of talk about the forthcoming KISS DVD 'Rock the Nation
Live!' amongst fans over the last few months. Whereas a release date still hasn't
been announced, according to Sanctuary Records' website the initial idea of
releasing a 2-DVD set recently changed into a 4-DVD set. Unfortunately, details
about the extra two discs are unknown as of yet (but a little while ago word went
around that these two additional discs are to feature a 1972 concert as well
as a supposed Winterland '73 show — however, KISS wasn't named KISS yet back in
'72 although Ace Frehley joined the band in December of that year — and as far
as we know WICKED LESTER performed their last live concert in '71 so it's quite
impossible to include a live show from '72, and KISS didn't play live in
Winterland in '73…) but in the fourth issue of official KISS magazine —
which came out recently and mentioned a summer release for the DVD — the track
listing for the 2 DVDs containing the actual Rock the Nation Tour footage was
revealed. As well as several other details about the discs' contents.
"And if all that hasn't changed by now, then things look very promising for the
upcoming DVD. It might turn out to be the coolest KISS DVD released up till now.
Not only will it contain no less than 20 live tracks, but also incredible
behind-the-scenes footage. Intermingled with the songs will be exciting
backstage footage — including stuff shot in the dressing room, at soundcheck,
on the road, etc. Tommy Thayer (who previously was responsible for the KISS
DVDs 'The Second Coming' and 'Symphony' as well as Ted Nugent's 'Full Bluntal
Nugity') was in charge of the DVD project and likes to refer to all the
behind-the-scenes footage — which was filmed by Spiro Papadatos — as little
'documentaries.' Kevin McCullough (who did the editing for the 'Symphony' DVD
and worked with Gene Simmons on his 'Speaking In Tongues' DVD) edited the concert
footage whereas Tommy edited the behind-the-scenes/documentary footage. The
documentary sections have been divided into 7 different chapters, and include
voice overs by the band members.
"First up is The Dressing Room, which chronicles what each band member does to
get ready for the show (including Paul Stanley's vocal exercises), putting on
make up and costumes, etc. Then there's Photo Shoot, taking you back to the
March 2004 photo session at Neil Zlozower's studio which was a month or two
before the Rock The Nation Tour kicked off. The third documentary is titled
The Meet & Greets, which explains the reasoning behind doing the Platinum
Packages (and which features the best 3 or 4 meet & greets). Next up is
Soundchecks, including bits 'n' pieces of 'Mr. Speed', 'All The Way', 'The
Oath', 'I Stole Your Love', 'Comin' Home' and 'Two Timer'. The fifth documentary
is The Theatre Shows, featuring bits from the two theater shows during the 2004
Australian tour which brings back memories of the band's original theater/club
days. On The Road is the title of the next documentary, showcasing pretty much
the other 22 hours of the day on a typical concert day (flying on the private
KISS jet, traveling to each city and venue) as well as off-days (on which you
could find the band bowling). And ending the 'Rock the Nation' discs is Fan
Testimonials/Credits, which speaks for itself.
"As a very cool bonus, the new DVD — for which post-production was done by
San Francisco company MX Entertainment who also worked with acts such as RUSH
and the ROLLING STONES on DVD projects — will have Power Vision/Select-A-KISS
on 7 songs, which means you can select the camera focusing on one of each band
member exclusively, each member appears in his own 'window' and you can navigate
from one to another (which is something the STONES already did on three songs
on their 'Four Flicks' DVD, obviously it's called Select-A-Stone then)."

KISS Rocks - Kevin Harvick Rolls!
From: KISSAsylum By: Russ Dannecker
Kevin Harvick, driving the #47 RaySat/KISS NASCAR Chevrolet, finished 3rd at the
Cheerios Betty Crocker 200 at the Richmond International Raceway on September 8,
his best finish this year (so far). According to Kevin, "It is really fun to
drive a truck as good as out RaySat Silverado was tonight. We dropped back in the
field a little when we pitted and started working our way back toward the front.
The truck was really fast, we just couldn't get a long enough green flag run
there toward the end to get a good run on Todd (Bodine, finished 2nd) and
Skinner (Mike, race winner). But we were fast. Randy Goss, David Dollar and
everyone on the No. 47 team and at Morgan Dollar gave me an awesome truck to
drive tonight. I really had a great time racing the truck. As the race wound
down, we all started getting more aggressive and more aggressive and do what
you need to do to get by, but at the same time, be smart. We ran out of time to
get back up there and race them for win. But it was a good night and a good run
for this team. I just want to thank everyone at Chevrolet and Silverado brand for
putting this program together. It was cool to have KISS/KISS Army on the truck
tonight. It was just fun to be back in the truck series" (truckseries.com).
KISS Tribute CD is Top 15
From: KISSArmyNorway
KISS Army Norway and VME are proud to annonce that "Gods Of Thunder - A Norwegian
Tribute To KISS" debuted at #13 on the Norwegian charts. In comperison, Alive III
peaked at #15, and as odd as it might seems albums like Creatures Of The Night,
Smashes Thrashes and Hits, Animalize and Carnival Of Souls never made such a
great chart position as this tribute CD. In April last year Gene Simmons'
"Asshole" debuted and peaked at #23 on the Norwegian charts.
KISS Army have once again brought a lots of attention to KISS in Norway. The
tribute album got maximum exposure in the media making entertainment headlines
on Natinal television, radio and newspapers.
The album consist of chart-topping and award winning bands from Norway including
million-selling artist Espen Lind, World Idol winner Kurt Nilsen (who beat US
platinum artist Kelly Clarkson in last years final) and Norwegian superstars
Wig Wam with a guest apperance by Bruce Kulick. In addition to the music, the
CD-cover is quite historic and uniq as the artwork was done by Ken Kelly, the
man behind the Destroyer and Love Gun paintings.
Prior to the release, executive procucer Stig Karlsen (KISS Army) claimed that
this CD were going to bring tribute CD's to a new level both musically &
visually, and judging from the reviews and respons from the fans, he and his
team might as well have succeeded.

KISS Slot Machine
From: Las Vegas Review Journal By: Sonya Padgett
Pamela Anderson has one. Ed McMahon does, too. So it was only a matter of time
before rock icon KISS got theirs.
Call it their Sin City comeuppance: a video slot machine featuring the band's
hit song "Rock and Roll All Nite" and the members' famous mugs in full makeup.
The game was unveiled by Progressive Gaming International Corporation Tuesday at
the Global Gaming Expo with founding members Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons on
hand.
The band was in good company; across the convention center, actress Morgan
Fairchild was launching International Game Technology's Penny Megabucks game
featuring her likeness. And Don Cornelius was also at the Expo to introduce
IGT's Soul Train game.
The celebrity slot machine is nothing new. A slew of famous people have paired
their names and likenesses with gaming machines at past expos, including Pamela
Anderson, Clint Eastwood and others. It's a formula that apparently works well
for gaming companies. And the celebrities.
"Well, we try to get ourselves involved in every aspect of the American culture,"
Paul Stanley said. "And this is just another way" to do that.
Morgan Fairchild thought it would "be a hoot" to have her name and face on
Penny Megabucks machines. Surrounded by fans wanting to get a look at her and
the machines, Fairchild likened her association with the game to playing a
role.
"I'm always looking for great parts, unexpected roles," she said. And the
thought that she might make someone a millionaire is fun, she added.
Don Cornelius got involved with IGT's Soul Train slot machine because it was
flattering to the show.
"I thought it was a fun idea and I was invited, of course," Cornelius said.
"I think it will appeal to fans of the show, fans of soul music crowd that likes
to dance."
The celebrities have their reasons for lending their names to the machines.
But fans don't really care; they were just glad for the chance to meet their
favorite stars.
"It's past due," said KISS fan Thomas Denison, an expo attendee from
Las Vegas.
He was filming Stanley and Simmons as they greeted a long line of fans next to
their game. With the giant KISS sign hanging above the machines, it will stand
out in casinos, he said, and even draw players of all ages, just because they're
KISS fans.
"I first saw them in concert in 1976 and I was 5. They kind of bridge the age
gap. It's the makeup," he explained.
"I tinkered with the idea of bringing their action figures and having them sign
them but that might have been too geeky."
Looking at the line of fans waiting to get their photos taken with the two rock
stars told Rachel Duarte, a representative of Cliff Castle Casino in Camp Verde,
Arizona, everything she needed to know about the game itself.
"I can tell it's popular," she said. "We really have a market for KISS machines
because we get a lot of rock groups in our (city) and I think machines like
that will really appeal to our target market."

In our first full concert performance in over a year, KISS played to a packed
Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio Saturday night.
This private-ticket KISS show was a special appearance by us for Honda
Corporation and with a set lasting over 90 minutes, the crowd loved every
minute of it.
We flew into Columbus Friday night for a quick sound-check rehearsal at the
arena followed by a night on the town for some dinner and nightlife which we
enjoyed.
The Saturday night concert rocked from start to finishng
with "Detroit Rock City" and ending with the confetti-strewn "Rock &
Roll All Nite" with many KISS classics in between.
We had a great time and after a year lay-off it felt awesome to get back
onstage and do a kick-ass show.
My good buddy, PGA Championship winning golfer Shaun Micheel hung out with us
for the weekend in Columbus.
The deal is that I give him guitar lessons and he teaches me to be a better golfer.
Here's Shaun and I backstage before we went on Saturday night.

Animal
and Singer - Fact or Fun! By:
Tia of Eric Singer
dot Net and Kat's

Lincoln has often been compared
to Kennedy. But, did you ever wonder about Eric Singer and who he can be compared
too? After extensive research, I have found that Eric can be compared closely
to no other drummer than Animal.

Jim Henson may have intended
that Animal be a singer. But, Animal loved the drums so Henson's singer became
a drummer. In comparison, Eric Singer became a drummer.

Muppets have their origins
in the 1950s. Animal was soon born to the muppet family. Eric Singer was born
in 1958 in Cleveland Ohio.
Eric is currently on tour
with Alice Cooper. Alice appeared on the Muppets on October 30, 1978. Animal
was the drummer behind Alice when he performed on the Muppets. So, both drummers
have laid down a cool beat behind legendary Rock Artist, Alice Cooper.

Animal is a fan-oriented
person. While on tour, "Muppets On Location: Days of Swine and Roses," on a
loading dock, the show stopped in the middle for an autograph session. Eric
loves his fans too. Between performances, he often stops off at KISS Expos to
sign items for his fans.
Did you know that Animal
once had a drum solo onstage with Buddy Rich? When asked about his professional
influences, Eric sited Buddy Rich as being the most influential drummer upon
him.
In conclusion, Animal and
Eric Singer have striking similarities. Many childhood fans of Animal are now
dedicated fans of Eric Singer. Rock on Animal… Rock on Eric…

Just when I think I am better with 9/11. It hits me like a ton of bricks. It's
that time of the year, September 11th. I go right back to the hurt and loss of

From KISSAsylum.com - Keith Leroux Talks About
Honda Fest
Just back in Indy from last night's KISS show in Columbus. Like usual, not sure
if I had more fun seeing KISS or reuniting with the "Get A Life Inc" family! The
show was part of the Honda Family Fest for Honda employees and took place at the
Nationwide Arena. Got to the the hotel around 7 and called Russ who was already
backstage at the venue. Russ told me to go over to the arena before 8, that was
when they were letting the crowd in. There were no assigned seats so first come,
first serve and we were hoping to beat the crowd in and get good seats. My wife,
Michelle and our 2 youngest children, Alyssa and Joshua headed across the street
to the Arena. The vibe outside was crazy - I was not sure what to expect since
you could not buy tickets, sure KISS fans would find a way in - they always do,
but the majority of the audience was probably seeing KISS for the first time and
they seemed to be ready for the experience! There were thousands there waiting
for the doors toso we headed for another entrance and luckily enough they
let us in with our passes. There was no one in the venue itself but workers and
security and we decided we were going to get our seats rather than head back
stage.
Just as we walked down the stairs to the floor, my second family entered from
back stage - Get A Life, Inc was in the building! Mike Brandvold, Mike Naimoli,
Warren Lapine, Al Soluri & Toni Ann, Kevin Gladden and back from the dead and
about 100 lbs lighter, the baby of the family - Russ Dannecker (insert your own
applause for Russ here)!!! Also some other good friends of ours were present,
Ken, our friends from PaulStanleysparadise.com, Huggy Bear, Kristin, Hiro and
the girls from Japan (I don't want to misspell their names! They're always so
nice - thank you so much for the gifts!!). They all scouted out their seats -
front row center and as tempting as it was, I decided to take the front row of
the first section on Paul's side, so the little ones would be just a little off
the floor. The kids (Russ included) decided they wanted a snack while we were
waiting and Josh and I headed to the vendors upstairs. Just as we got to the
counter, they let the crowd in. I grabbed Josh and basically hugged the counter
as a mad rush of 10,000 pushed their way into the arena. I noticed the young
girl behind the counter actually seemed quite scared. I asked if this happened
for the previous events that day and she said no that was a much calmer entrance
then this, she continued that those crowds walked in slowly but then again this
is KISS!! When we got back to our seats my wife told me it was quite a scene
inside too as the people rushed to get seats.
Sitting next to me was a group of teenagers and the male of the group, Bradley
Bowermaster chatted with me and my son. He is a huge KISS fan and when I told
him about KISSAsylum, he told me he had been going there since 7th grade - boy
do I feel old!
We headed back to the hotel and met up with Eric and Tommy and headed up to the
lounge area. My buddy Dave Matthews (not the singer) was there and we had a nice
time catching up! Paul hung around and chatted for a while. My son Josh sat
himself down and chatted with Tommy and his friend PGA golfer Sean Micheel,
before I moved him to the next table. He's not that shy.
All in all another great time with great friends. For me I think of these KISS
shows as similar to going to a wedding or a funeral. You see all your old friends
and family and catch up on old times. I'm happy to report that KISS is in fine
form and so are my friends - so now I think of it more in the wedding vane.
A few years back there were definitely some funerals!

Gene Says What?
From: KISSOnline
QUESTION: With all the classic KISS costumes through the years, what's your
favorite era of Gene Simmons? --- Michael Carlton, Arlington, VA
ANSWER: I never considered anything we wore 'costumes'... I wore outfits.
An outfit is something you wear. A costume is something you put on to pretend
and we never pretended. My favorite outfit was probably the Destroyer armor
outfit. Variations of the armor went as far back as the photo session for
Hotter Than Hell, photographed by Norman Seefe in Los Angeles in late 1974. At
that session, someone gave me a Roman chest plate. I loved it immediately and
saw it as a logical extension of my wearing, what I perceived as "war paint" and
going off to war. The armor felt right. It wasn't until we worked on Destroyer,
that it felt right, conceptually. We actually started wearing early versions
of the outfits while we toured Europe in support of Alive I in early 1976, but
didn't start wearing the full outfits until we went out with Destroyer. Versions
and variations of the armor were to appear and re-appear. During the Creatures Of
The Night period, I redesigned the armor and added pieces. And of course, when
we went back with Ace and Peter for the reunion of the original members during
the late 90's, I resurrected it.
QUESTION: Recently in the press you said that KISS might not tour for two years.
Is that something that's set in stone? I sure hope not. --- Chris Guillory,
New Haven, CT
ANSWER: Touring is never as easy as fans believe it is. Right place and right
time isn't just a phrase, it's real. We've also come to a place, where each
of us (myself included), wants to spread our wings and try different things.
When will KISS tour? No one knows exactly. But as far as I'm concerned,
nothing is more important than touring with KISS. Nothing gives me that kick.
QUESTION: When you're writing KISS songs, what comes first; a title, a melody or
a chorus? --- Jules Van Kampen, Utrecht, Netherlands
ANSWER: Writing songs just doesn't come in a 'paint by numbers' kit. Sometimes
someone says something or I hear a phrase or the sense of it, like Little Richard
said during a lyric "You've got nothing to lose." It struck me as the backbone
of a song I could write. Or when I heard The Stones, "Brown Sugar," I
immediately told Paul I would write my own version of a streetwalker and call it
"Black Diamond." Unfortunately for me and fortunately for the band, Paul beat
me to it and wrote his own "Black Diamond." "Deuce" began as a bass riff.
"Christine Sixteen" began as a guitar riff. "Calling Dr. Love" began as a
phrase the 3 Stooges used. "Calling Dr. Howard, Calling Dr. Fine..."
QUESTION: The legacy of KISS has influenced many for over three decades, in your
opinion what will KISS mean 100 years from now? --- Francis Wright, Charlotte,
NC
ANSWER: What KISS will mean 100 years from now may not be all that important.
Maybe the most important thing, is that KISS has been a part of people's lives,
mine too. Children have been named Beth and Christine. Fans have tattooed
their bodies with our faces. Hopefully, the world is a slightly better place
because of KISS.
KISS STAR PICKS UP GIG AS UNIVERSITY TRUSTEE
From: The Oregonian By: By Sophia Tareen
Straight-laced Pacific University may be loosening up a bit.
The newest member of its board of trustees is the lead guitarist of KISS, the
1970s heavy metal band known for its elaborate makeup and costumes, stadium
pyrotechnics and high-volume mantra that spoke of the need to "rock and roll
all night and party every day."
Tommy Thayer, a Cedar Hills native and 1978 graduate of Sunset High School,
was elected this summer to the board of trustees. He joined business executives,
doctors and former Gov. Vic Atiyeh on the board guiding the 2,500-student liberal
arts college.
On the road, Thayer wears the sequined black leotard abandoned in 2002 by Ace
Frehley, a founding member of KISS. He becomes "The Spaceman," duplicating
Frehley's trademark makeup that includes a white base with a silver-and-black
mask around both eyes.
He is the only rock star on the Pacific University board.
The board's 37 other members unanimously voted to add Thayer. Trustees said they
wanted to notch down the average age of board members — Thayer is 44 — and
maybe find a potential donor. And even earn a little attention.
"I made it clear that I expect to see them all at the next Portland concert,"
Thayer said. "I told them I'd provide the earplugs."
Board members said Thayer's father, Jim Thayer Sr., past president of the
Beaverton Chamber of Commerce, recommended his son for the position. The elder
Thayer is a retired colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve and civilian aide to the
U.S. Secretary of the Army. He also serves as a trustee at Reed College and
on the Tuality Hospital Foundation.
When The Spaceman takes a break from touring and belting out KISS anthems —
with lyrics including "I'm a hooligan/I won't go to school again . . ." —
Thayer will come to Forest Grove four times a year for daylong budget meetings
and debates over the finer details of building design as the school expands to
Hillsboro.
"It's an opportunity to get involved in the home front and be a little less
conventional," Thayer said. "You never know, maybe I'll end up taking some
classes!"
KISS Fans Come Through
From: KISSAsylum.com By: Keith Leroux
After watching the news for that last few days I was not really in the mood
to even go to the KISS Expo this weekend and to be honest if it wasn't for the
commitments I had made, I was not going. Just doesn't seem right to be
celebrating and having fun when hundreds of thousands of people are suffering
and have lost everything. This disaster has affected me and I'm sure many of you,
much like 9/11 and in some ways even more. My breaking point was Thursday evening
when I watched Fox news until around 4 am. I came up with the idea that I wanted
to do something to try and help. I called my friend Steve Stierwalt and we agreed
to donate KISS t-shirts and Farewell posters to be sold at the Expo with 100% of
the money, not profit, going to the Red Cross (Posters sold for a $1 and $1 will
be donated). I spoke to Eric Singer and he loved the idea and agreed to sign the
items free for anyone who donated. Eric and I also discussed a benefit concert
we are going to do Oct. 15th in Indianapolis and I will release info later this
week!
Jim Frangella and his friend Jeff did a wonderful job putting on the event and
while the crowd was not huge for an Expo, it was actually more than I had
expected in light of the recent disaster. I had spoken to many of my friends
who were planning to go, that told me with the gas price and what was going on
in the South; they were just not going this time around. Right before the doorsd Steve and I walked the line of fans and told them what we were doing for
the Red Cross. Eric also told just about everyone who came to get his autograph
about the posters.
Every one wanted to help out! One lady thanked us for what we were doing and
donated $20 just because Eric was so nice to her kids. Our friends Missi and
Lisa gave their days pay! Thanks to everyone who attended, today I donated
$750.00 in the name of the Chicago KISS Expo Fans to the Red Cross. The KISS
Army came through as usual.
Attending the expo was also great therapy for me. Got me away from the news for
little and gave me the opportunity to hang out and laugh with some of my best
friends in the world - Eric Singer, Steve, Missi, Lisa, Jim, Barry & family,
Karen and Allen, Don, Bill and Warren. Same goes to all the fans who attend,
many of you I don't even know your name but I know your face.
During Bill Starkey's Q&A, a question was asked about why KISS was not in
the Hall of Fame and people mentioned that they wanted to do something to get
KISS in the Hall. We all know why KISS is not in there - mostly boils down to
jealousy. The people who nominate and vote don't respect KISS. They can't deal
with the fact that KISS has been one of the most successful and influential
bands of all time. They can't fathom that these guys who they feel are beneath
them and untalented, have become living American Icons!
But after this weekend, I realize that none of that matters. Don't waste an
ounce of energy with a petition - screw the Hall of Fame - because KISS'
legacy is much more important than awards and ironically more important than
even their music. They have brought together people from many places and many
cultures, to form friendships that last years and in some cases decades.
Sometimes we don't speak with or see each other for months at a time but every
time we do, we pick up right where we left off. We chat about this stupid rock
band that we all love with a passion that many of us can't even understand. We
are a fanatical family of misfits but we are a strong family and obviously a
caring family! We are KISS' legacy!!

It Happened at the Chicagoland KISS Expo!
By: Tia
of Kat's Eyes
Photos Coming Soon
Chicago! Were you there? If not, your gonna wish you
were. The 2005 ChicagoLand KISS Expo blew into the windy
city suburb of Countryside Illinois on Saturday, September
3. The troops moved into the ballroom to take part in
what has become a ritual for KISS fans, "The KISS Expo".
Jim Frangella promoted the event and was supported by
vendors and fans from all over the country.
About 40 tables full of nothing but pure KISS memorabilia
began to fill the room by 6 A.M. Red eyed and running
on pure adrenaline, KISS dealers were set and ready
for the fans that were welcomed into the hall at 11.
The most diverse collection of vintage and contemporary
pieces of KISSTORY were made available to the fans in
the upper mid-west on Saturday. Minutes from Chicago
and less than a few hours from everywhere else, this
event was a hit!
Smiles of fans both young and old spread across the
masses as they were greeted by drummer, Eric Singer,
who took a day out of his busy schedule to sign hundreds
of autographs. The catman is currently touring with
Alice Cooper. Be sure to catch Alice as he visits a
venue in your town. Eric Singer always talks to each
fan and gives them what they want, a look into his life
as a rock star. Moreover, a member of The Hottest Band
In The World! For fans that have not had opportunity
to meet Eric, a word to describe him would simply be
WOW! Fans passed by his table and had everything signed
that one can imagine. It always starts like this when
a fan speaks, "I saw you at...", and Eric listens intently
as fans describe their KISS memory of choice. I had
the opportunity to hear Eric field questions about KISS
and lots of interest that always lies in the new lineup.
Eric described Tommy as being so talented and a heck
of a nice guy. This writer's opinion is that KISS is
Alive and will be for a very long time. I believe new
material and a tour will once again sell out stadiums
around the world.
A big favorite in the hall was on display, an official
KISS Motorcycle. Man this thing is nice. I don't have
the details yet, but I want to tell you more about this
work of engineering and art! I'll update you on this
bike soon.
The ultra NEW KISS site KISSArmyWarehouse sold their
wares across one end of the room, announced their launch next Friday.
To celebrate the new venture, this KISS Glass Award that was once presented to
KISS by Miami Arena commemorating their sold out Reunion
show in 1996 was given to this lucky KISS fan. Hans
at KISS4Sale took this shot. The cool KISSArmyWarehouse
contribution to the expo was their dedication to the
people hurting in the wake of the largest disaster in
modern US history, Hurricane Katrina. Over $700 was
gathered at the event to help those in need. Eric did
a Q&A with the fans and announced an upcoming Indy event
being put together to benefit the victims of Katrina.
Prior to Eric's Q&A, Bill Starkey, the founder and leader
of the largest non-militant army in our country, told
fans how a 1970s rock and roll uprising of KISS fans
in Terre Haute, Indiana, was recognized by Gene, Paul,
Peter, and Ace as the work of "The KISS Army". In Bill''s
words Saturday, "Just look around the room. The KISS
Army is Alive and Well!" A friend of Bill and army member
present at the radio station conflict in Terre Haute
was once again in support of his leader at this event.
Drummer and Founder of Byar Drums, Jim Byar took a seat
next to Bill to meet the fans.
KISS fan / college dean, Collette Shaw, of KISSFiction
signed her book, "Won't Get Fooled Again",
and talked to the fans. Wendy Moore was signing and
selling her book, "Into the Void". If KISS manufactured
one, Allan and Karen Mullins, promoters of the Cincinnati
KISS Expo, probably had one on their table. KISS4Sale
was represented by owner, Hans, at the far end of the
room with a huge lot of great KISS collectibles. Warren
Lapine, of the Official KISS Quarterly magazine is starting
to be a regular around KISS Expos. Not to be confused
with one that has issues, Warren definitely had issues
at the event. Back issues and subscriptions of this
cool contribution to the KISS community could be purchased
from the creator himself. Don't wait; get yours now!
KatsEyesProducts had quite a variety of pieces to pick
from. This trio loves to talk to the younger fans especially.
It is always interesting to hear the children talk about
KISS just like the whole thing just started. I get the
sense from the kids that there was Buzz Lightyear and
now there is something new and cool to love, KISS. Even
as a veteran fan, I have to agree, "We are just getting
started".
Late in the evening, Angelo Coppola, Nine Year Old Boy
Drummer,d for the tribute bands. To see him in
person, it is hard to imagine how a person of his age
could pack such a punch behind the drums. Sheer talent!
This boy is destined to become a star. Kings Of The
Nighttime world hit the stage with their unplugged set.
Paraphrasing Gene as he once explained, to do it with
amps is one thing; to do it natural is another. A sign
of a true musician. Becoming veterans among the tribute
bands, by far the nicest, best looking, and the only
all-female band, Black Diamond, ripped out another hard
rocking show for the fans. If you get the chance, be
sure to see a tribute band. I love this line and enjoy
sharing with you what a "tribute band" Paul once screamed
as he addressed the fans, "We're not KISS. We don't
pretend to be KISS". Maybe not significant here but
just to point out that when you see a tribute band,
you will remember the experience. They Rock!
All good things come to an end. Just like a monumental
KISS concert itself, the doors close, the vendors tear
down, lights out, and on to the next Big KISS Blowout,
a KISS Expo in your town. Be sure to check out the Baltimore
/ Washington Expo on October 16!
