DVD Update
From: KISSOnline.com
The KISS ROCK THE NATION LIVE! DVD release date has been officially
set back one week to December 13, 2005. The two-disc set was shot in High
Def during last year's 2004 Rock The Nation tour.
Indy Hurricane Relief A Success!
From: Keith Leroux / KISSAsylum.com
Finally have a few minutes to stop and thank everyone involved in last week's
Hurricane benefits here in INDY. The shows were great and we ended up raising
$4000.00 for the Red Cross and $1000.00 for the Humane Society!!
Thanks to the following for making these donations possible: Southwest Airlines,
Enterprise Car Rental, Holiday Inn of Fishers, Holiday Inn 465/Emerson, Jonas
Productions, Don & Simon Barr Sinister, Ace Cosby & Q95, Birdy's Bar & Grill,
Marriott Hotels, KISS Museum, KISS Asylum, KISS online, KISS4sale,
KISSarmywarehouse, Clear Channel, Mailboxes Etc, Smith Sound, Jim Breeding,
Mike & Charlotte, Michelle Leroux, Joshua Leroux, Alyssa Leroux, Michelle &
Steve Stierwalt, Mike Dillion, Missi Kadison, Peter Arquette, Joan & Bob
Brenner/Brenner Luggage, Gene Hall and all the fans who attended or donated
to these events.
A special thank you to Bruce Kulick, who really wanted to be part of the events
even though he could not attend. He allowed the band to use his personal
guitars for the shows and he also got ESP Guitars to donate a guitar.
The guitar and other items were raffled off for a dollar a chance. My
kids decided they wanted to help the displaced animals in New Orleans and
being an animal lover Bruce agreed. With the raffle and sales of some
donated $1 items - we raised the $1000 for the Humane Society!!
Lastly a huge thank you to Eric Singer, Ryan Roxie, Damon Johnson and Chuck
Garric!! From the moment I asked them to do these events, they were 100%
supportive. The guys told me they wanted to do more than just write a check,
they wanted to donate their time. What most of you don't know is the guys
had a chance to spend three days off in Las Vegas with family and friends and
instead played these shows! They even donated money from the sales of their
8 x 10's to the Red Cross and Ryan donated a suit case full of baby clothes.
The events were a lot of work but very rewarding for all involved. It was
great how so many people came together and just donated their services,
merchandise, time or money with no questions asked! I am proud to know
everyone of you involved in the events and you should be proud to have
been willing to be involved!
Thanks,Keith
Hall Of Fame Letter
From: Colette Shaw
“UNACCEPTABLE!” SAYS KISS ARMY OF LETTER FROM ROCK HALL
Plans for a protest rally at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame continue after fans
of the iconic rock group KISS received a letter from Hall of Fame president
Terry Stewart. “Unacceptable!” says Joe Apple, who initiated contact with the
Hall by requesting an explanation for KISS’s absence on the ballot for Hall of
Fame induction. Apple is not only a fan, but the chair of the rally planned for
August 5, 2006 at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland, Ohio. “We
have no intention of backing down,” he asserts.
“They really missed the point,” agrees rally co-chair Paul Carpenter. Among
other things, Stewart told us that ‘candidates are reviewed and discussed
relative to their impact on this music that we broadly call rock and roll.’
What the Hall establishment fails to acknowledge is not just KISS’s impact on
music, but on rock and roll itself. KISS not only created a musical spectacle,
but a culture. For much of the world, the word ‘KISS’ is synonymous with the
phrase ‘rock and roll.’ KISS reset the bar for other artists when they stormed
into the ‘70s. Three decades later, their influence on show business is
everywhere.”
Apple and Carpenter have received support for the protest rally from all over
the world. “The outreach from fans, performers and volunteers is exactly what
we expected–generous and enthusiastic,” Apple says. “We can’t wait until
August.”

KISS ON DISPLAY!
From: KISSOnline.com
KISS action figures were predominantly displayed at the grandng of the
Action Figure and Toy Museum in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma on Saturday, October
15th.
The museum's goal is to educate and excite visitors with a comprehensive
collection of classic "pop culture" toys, with an emphasis on the social and
historic evolution of the action figure. It is the only official action figure
museum in the world, paying tribute to the designers, sculptors, and toy
companies that have turned action figures from a child's plaything to a work of
art.
As part of the grandng, a costume contest was held and of course three
KISS fans dressed as the hottest band in the world won the contest!

Latin Rocker CARLOS SANTANA
From: ContactMusic
"Latin rocker CARLOS SANTANA has slammed outrageous KISS frontman GENE SIMMONS
by questioning his musical ability and branding him "Las Vegas entertainment".
The SMOOTH hitmaker is appalled by the standard of Simmons' music and insists the
rocker hides his lack of skill behind layers of gothic clothing and black
make-up.
Santana says, "He's not a musician, he's an entertainer. A musician is (JOHN)
COLTRANE, BOB MARLEY. Kiss is Las Vegas entertainment, so he wouldn't know what
music is anyway. That's why he wears all that stuff.
"A musician doesn't need the mask and the mascara so there's a difference between
an entertainer and a musician."
From: GeneSimmons.com
Carlos Santana is cool. His assessment? I have no problem with it. That's why
they make menus in restaurants. Not everyone likes the same meal. I wish him well.
From: Kat's Eyes
Sounds like Santa-na is suffering from "Tongue Envy". I'll bet he was passed over
during a KISS guitarist audition in the past. Santa-na has no stage presence.
He has no charisma. Gene may not be the nicest guy in town but he and his boys are still the
rockers of choice around here. I guess a person would have to eat fast food to get an order
of "Santana". As for me, I will stick with real food! Anyone for tongue?

ng Act Was Main Event
From: INDYStar.com By: David Lingquist via: KISSAsylum.com
Exerpt Reads: "To use a rock 'n' roll analogy, the concert had a lot in common with
the 2003 tour in which KISSd for Aerosmith: While Aerosmith played
their classics in competent fashion, KISS had already provided more than enough
entertainment for one night."
THESE TONGUES ARE TOTALLY TWISTED
From: The Star Tribune/Minneapolis By: Bill Dawson via: KISSOnline.com
The tongue is a versatile instrument. You can twist it, pierce it, protrude it.
And, if you're a rock star like Gene Simmons, of VH1's "Rock School," or Mick
Jagger, now on the Rolling Stones' "Bigger Bang" tour, you can use it to lap up
publicity.
Even dogs are getting in the act, with the Humunga Tongue, a new prop from
Moody Pet Inc. (www.moodypet.com) which assures that your pooch will never
suffer tongue envy.
With so many prominent tongues flashing, it's time to check out which are
the most twisted:
Gene Simmons - Tongue type: Serpentine, Function: Frightens parents of
KISS-loving children. Attracts women turned on by creepy men in heavy makeup.
Michael Jordan - Tongue type: Floppy, Function: Once meant that he was about
to perform a 360-reverse dunk over two 7-footers. Now, it probably just
means he's thirsty.
Rolling Stones Symbol - Tongue type: Cartoonish, Function: The emblem of the
Rolling Stones since about 1971. Its message: "We're still irreverent,
in-your-face and brimming with infantile sexuality."
Komodo Dragon - Tongue type: Forked, Function: To sample the air, detect
odors and say, "Hey, baby" to unattached komodos and aging KISS groupies.
Humunga Tongue - Tongue type: Prosthetic, Function: A $12 toy for your dog to
fetch and carry while you laugh uproariously. Puppy psychiatry sessions not
included.
Warman’s KISS Collectibles Field Guide
From: KISSHall.com
It checks in at 512 pages, with over 525 Full Color photos. I am going to
repeat that. 512 pages, with over 525 Full Color photos. My books are full
gloss, full color photos, unlike some copy cat, plagiarizing KISS price
guides that have lots of grainy black and white photos on rough paper to go
along with an insert of 8 color pages. Also included is an exclusive twenty
nine page interview that I conducted with the genius behind KISS, original
manager Bill Aucoin. Bill discusses such topics as:
The first appearance of KISS as a group on vinyl (not the KISS LP).
How KISS singles were selected, and why there were not more photo picture sleeves from America.
Why Alive! has not been certified Platinum to this day (seriously, it is not certified.)
The error version of the Alive II
The greatest publicity stunt ever for KISS, the Cadillac Michigan celebration, including a hilarious version of how the KISS helicopter was used.
The story behind the Gibson Marauder guitars Paul busted.
Why Paul does not wear a Fire helmet anymore.
The real reason KISS included inserts in their LP’s (Bill is a genius! The record labels need to do this again to cut down on consumers burning CD’s)
And much, much, much more!

ACE IN ATLANTIC CITY
From: KISSOnline.com By: Jim Bullotta
Ace Frehley recently made the rounds at The Borgata in Atlantic City, dropping
by to hang out with Rick Springfield after Rick's sold-out show at the resort on
October 1. Ace and Rick chatted it up about the biz and touring and were then
escorted over to the other venue within the casino complex to catch the final
encore of Pearl Jam's also sold-out performance where Ace was penciled in to
jam with the band. Ace was brought up onstage by Pearl Jam guitarist Mike
McCready, who announced to the capacity crowd, "I never would have picked up a
guitar if it wasn't for Ace Frehley." Springfield and his entourage cheered Ace
on from the VIP area as the band launched into an overcharged rendition of Neil
Young's "Keep On Rockin' In The Free World" with Ace offering up the blistering
leads to the SRO crowd.
KISS SLOT MACHINE UNVEILED...
From: KISSFreaks.com By: AussyAce
Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons appeared at the 5th Anniversary of the G2E
Global Gaming Expo which took place on September 13 at the Convention Center
in Las Vegas, to be on hand for the unveiling of the KISS slot machine created
by Progressive Gaming International Corporation.
A promotional t-shirt (see image above) was given away to those fans who took
their picture with Paul and Gene, who were not willing to sign autographs for all
the KISS fans that showed up (although they did sign stuff for some fans),
calling some of them "professionals" (meaning Gene thinks they would sell the
signed items on places like e-Bay and such).
Peter Criss Talks
From: PeterCriss.net
Q: What's going on with the
new Album, when do you think it's going to ship?
PC: It's going great, thank you for asking. I am
wearing alot of hats. This is the first time I've ever done it all, writing,
arranging, singing, playing, editing, mixing and producing. I hope to be done
mixing by late September. It's up to the record company when it ships, it's all
about timing for them.
Q: What kinds of inspirations did you draw on for this
CD?
PC: All the songs are so near and dear to my heart.
All inspirations, my wife, family and God. I hope you like it, no, love it!
Q: Do you have any favorites among the new tracks or
anything very special to you?
PC: That's hard. I have so many goodies. I feel this
is the best work I've ever done. I've never worked so hard on a record. It's
about life, love, and ups and downs. Real Peter Criss!
Q: What kinds of messages are you trying to get out
with this project?
PC: To feel and love and dream.
Q: Will we have a chance to see you live after the new
album is out?
PC: We are talking about next year, some shows,
Austrailia, Japan and America, Peter Criss Days. I have everything a man
could want, but my wife, Gigi, is convincing me to play? She runs my website
with Ray, my webmaster, and the fans tell me they miss me and want to have the
chance to meet me, so hopefully, we will be able to put that together. It's all
about having fun.
Q: What else is on the schedule for you after the
album's out?
PC: I also started a swing album, and working on a
surprise CD. But right after the album, I am going straight back to my book.
My turn to tell my side of my life.

SIMMONS WILL TAKE HIS FORTUNE SIX FEET UNDER
From: ContactMusic.com
KISS frontman GENE SIMMONS refuses to leave any of his possessions to his
wife, because he intends to take them all with him when he dies.
The cult singer and bassist wants to be stuffed with dollar bills to prove he
can take it all with him when he's gone.
The 56-year-old says, "I'd like to hollow out my body and stuff my carcass with
them (his possessions). They say you can't take it with you - well, I'm going to
try. I want my a**hole filled with $100 bills. People often say, 'Go f**k
yourself.' Perhaps I just might."

Gene Simmons To Tell All About It!
From: GeneSimmons.com
Recently, some of you have written in inquiring where you can purchase A
NEW BOOK I'm writing called LADIES OF THE NIGHT: A HISTORICAL AND PERSONAL
PERSPECTIVE OF THE FIRST AND OLDEST PROFESSION. While it IS true I had planned
for the book to be written by now, there just aren't enough hours in the day or
night to do so. The book will, hopefully see the light of day sometime in the
summer. You can be sure I will let you all know the details. The book will be
published by SIMMONS BOOKS/PHOENIX BOOKS.
There are also plans to have a SPOKEN WORD BOOK of the same available on
(you guessed it) SIMMONS AUDIO/PHOENIX BOOKS.
KISS COFFIN DONATED TO PANTERA GUITARIST
From: ContactMusic.com
KISS rocker GENE SIMMONS sent a coffin which was made especially for him, to the
family of ex-PANTERA guitarist DARRELL 'DIMEBAG' ABBOT, after he was killed on
stage during a concert last year (2004).
DIMEBAG was inspired by cult group KISS, and requested in his will that he be
buried in one of the famous coffins.
Simmons says, "There were a limited number made and I sent mine to the family
of 'Dimebag' Darrell. He requested in his will to be buried in a Kiss Kasket,
as he sort of learned his rock 'n' roll roots by listening to us for some
strange reason."
Darrell was 38 when he was shot dead by a man who stormed the stage at a
concert in Ohio.
A Disgusted KISS Army Puts Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on Notice
From: ArriveNet
Cleveland, OH -- (ArriveNet - Sep 26, 2005) -- In response to the announcement
of the finalists for this year’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductions, fans of
rock group KISS have issued a warning to the Hall: “We’re sending in our forces.”
Known as the KISS Army, fans of the make-up wearing, blood-spitting icons
say they are tired of the lack of respect given to the 70s icons who are
still playing to packed stadiums 30 years after their creation.
“KISS has been America’s number one gold record award winning group of
all time,” says rally chairman Paul Carpenter. “Look at their impact on the
music industry! Artists from Lenny Kravitz to Garth Brooks have said on
record that KISS were the most influential musicians in their lives. The
fact that year after year the Hall has failed to place KISS on its list of
finalists is not just an oversight but a disgrace.”
According to rally co-chair Joe Apple, KISS fans from all around the
world are already making plans to converge on the Hall of Fame Museum in
Cleveland on August 4, 2006 to tell the Hall and the world that KISS
deserves a place of honor among the legends of rock & roll. “The KISS Army
formed as a grassroots movement by a teenager in Indiana 30 years ago,” says
Apple. “We’re going to mobilize the generations of KISS fans who have
enlisted over the years to make this an event the entertainment world will
never forget.”

Kevin Conrad, The Psycho Artist, Speaks
Feature Article For Kat's Eyes Products
This is an interview I did with Psycho Circus Comic
Artist, Kevin Conrad. Read This and Be Inspired! Tia
Tia: As a child, at what age did you
realize that you had an interest in art? And, what age
did family and friends recognize the fact that you had
a natural talent as an artist?
Kevin: My earliest memories of drawing
are of boring my friends to tears because that's all
I wanted to do, probably I was around 4 years old. I
remember drawing all of the Halloween decorations for
my second grade class, I think that's probably when
it hit home with my family, that, as you say, I had
a 'natural talent as an artist'.
Tia: What was the first drawing or
piece you remember doing that influenced your future
as a comic book artist?
Kevin: I was eleven years old, I still
have the picture. It's on my site in one of my message
posts Here.
I stopped over my best friend's and he was copying a
picture out of a Marvel comic. I thought to myself -
'I can do better than that', and promptly sat down and
drew a pic of Iron Man from one of his comics. That's
all it took, I was hooked, we drew heroes, made our
own comics, you name it. From that point on, I knew
I wanted to end up in comics.
Tia: Did you lean towards the study
of art while growing up? What special classes or schools
did you attend to develop your skills?
Kevin: I've been drawing all of my
life, my high school art instructors structured an advanced
program for me because of my commitment to art. I was
talented sure, but I wasn't the most talented. I have
to say I probably was the most committed though. In
my senior year, I had my final 3 required courses and
then 5 periods of art! I also have a 2 year degree in
applied science with a major in commercial art.
Tia: Do you play any musical instrument?
As a KISS fan, did you or do you ever wear KISS makeup?
Kevin: Yeah, I've played the drums
off and on since high school. I had a band that actually
got good enough to play out for a brief period in the
80's. I still have them, and jam once in a while with
a few of the neighbors, I have a couple of cousins who
want to get together and start jamming, I'm looking
forward to that! They know a bunch of Kiss tunes!
Yeah, I dressed up as Paul Stanley for Halloween back in '79, the pic is on
my website. Unfortunately, I picked probably the gayest costume he ever
wore - the Dynasty outfit!
Tia: What was your first KISS album
or tape? What was your impression of KISS and their
music?
Kevin: Kiss Alive! In vinyl. The same
friend who I started drawing heroes with turned me on
to them. He bought the album and played it for me. My
first impression was mixed. I didn't quite know what
to make of them. After hearing it a few times though,
I was sucked in for life! I couldn't get enough of them
and I probably turned more of my friends off of them
due to my insatiable need to have anything and everything
Kiss. By the way, my friend who so obviously impacted
my future is a letter carrier and no longer listens
to Kiss - go figure!
Tia: Who was your favorite member of
KISS as a young fan? Later, as the Psycho Circus comic
artist, and when you had the opportunity to meet members
of the band, did you maintain the same favorite member?
Kevin: My favorite was always a toss
up between Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons. Paul always
seemed to be surrounded by beautiful women and Gene
just had the coolest, bad ass look. I've always been
a fan of the same things as Gene - comics and horror
movies, OLD horror movies. I never got to meet the band
while doing the comic, I did get great seats for the
Psycho Circus tour though. I met Gene, Paul, Bruce and
Eric Carr during the Crazy Nights tour, I won the KISS
PLATINUM EXPRESS CARD from my local radio station and
I was able to use it 3 or 4 times during that tour.
I met Ace at a local club during the BAD BOYS tour with
Peter Criss. That was when I was working on Spawn. Sean
Delaney was a good friend of one of the colorists on
Spawn and he hooked me up with Sean, who then hooked
me up with Ace's management. I'd have to say hands down,
Eric Carr was and is my favorite member of Kiss, he
saved their asses in the early 80's and he was a great
guy. Probably one of the most powerful drummers I can
think of. I got to talk to him for quite a while back
stage at one of those Crazy Nights shows. Original members,
I'd say probably Paul now, he just seems more serious
about the music than Gene.
Tia: When did you draw your very first
KISS piece? Can you describe it?
Kevin: It's probably the piece that's
on my website - Here
- I was 15 when I drew it, there are also a few more
up there as well.
Tia: How did you get selected to be
the Psycho Circus artist?
Kevin: Todd McFarlane knew I was a
huge Kiss fan and he was gearing up to do the book.
I got asked, and I jumped at it!
Tia: While working on the Psycho Circus
series, how much freedom did you have to create the
characters and apply them to the plot?
Kevin: Well, that was pretty much the
penciler's job, I did throw in plenty of 'Easter Eggs'
for the fans though. Things that would mean nothing
to average comic reader, but everything in the world
to a Kiss fan.
Tia: Will you tell what the process
is to create just one page of a comic book? How long
does it take to create one comic page? How long does
it take on average to develop the art used in one issue?
Kevin: Generally, from story to pencils,
to inks, to colors to letters, you have 4 - 5 weeks
to complete an issue. The process goes in just that
order. The penciler gets the script, pencils a page,
sends it to the inker then it goes to the colorist then
letterer. Aside from story and letters each stage takes
generally a day. The inkers deadline for a complete
book is usually around a week after the penciler and
the colorist is usually a week after the inks. Some
good examples of Pencils to Inks of some KPC pages can
be seen - Here
Tia: Which issue of the Psycho Circus
series did you enjoy working on? Why?
Kevin: I would say any and every issue
I worked on with Clayton Crain. The guy was the coolest,
I had a lot of freedom as an inker to change things
- re work things. The one that probably is closest to
my heart is the last issue. I co-penciled the cover
with Clayton and he inked it. I penciled that cover
the morning of my Mom's wake.
Tia: Were their any comps or perks
for doing the Psycho Circus series? If so, what kind
of things did you get or get to do?
Kevin: Well, the biggest perk for me
is that I'm now enshrined in the halls of KISSTORY forever!
How cool is that? I was invited to be a guest at a couple
of NY Kiss Expos as well.
Tia: What are your current projects?
Do you have any plans or have you been considered to
do further KISS related work in the future?
Kevin: First and foremost, I just finished
penciling my first full length comic, called Jazan Wild's
Carnival Of Souls. It has a definite KPC flavor to it,
and you can buy it at your local comic book shop come
Halloween. By the time this interview goes live, you
will be able to order it directly at my site, or go
directly to the publisher and order it - There
.
I'm also working for Top Cow and Marvel inking a bunch of stuff.
Tia: One last thing; can KISS fans
purchase autographed prints or originals of your works?
Where can these be viewed?
Kevin: My sites a mess right now, but
I do have prints available for purchase as well as orginal
art (including a handful of KPC pages). I do commissions
as well.
